Samsung has launched the 2026 Portable SSD P7 in the US, available in 1TB, 2TB, 4TB and 8TB capacities. The 1TB and 2TB models are now listed online on Amazon US at the time of writing. Samsung says the 4TB and 8TB capacities will be available in November, so those two are not shipping alongside the 1TB and 2TB at launch.

The interface is USB4 Gen 3×2, rated at 40 Gbps, with sequential speeds of up to 4,000/3,800 MB/s read/write. Samsung’s spec sheet also carries a second rating of up to 4,000/3,700 MB/s, without stating which capacity it applies to.
Samsung says that to reach the maximum sequential speeds “the host device and connection cables must support USB4 Gen 3×2 and the UASP mode must be enabled”, so a host or cable below USB4 Gen 3×2 will not reach these numbers.
When it comes to durability, the P7 is rated for drops of up to 6.5 feet and for vibration resistance.
It measures 3.54 x 2.56 x 0.33 inches and weighs approximately 3.46 oz (98g) at maximum.
Samsung lists compatibility with Windows, macOS, Android, mobile (Galaxy and iPhone and newer), tablets, laptops and video game consoles. Host device compatibility may vary.
The drive carries a limited 5-year warranty.
